Release Date - April 15th 2014

After breaking up with her bad-news boyfriend, Reagan O’Neill is ready to leave her rebellious ways behind. . . and her best friend, country superstar Lilah Montgomery, is nursing a broken heart of her own. Fortunately, Lilah’s 24-city tour is about to kick off, offering a perfect opportunity for a girls-only summer of break-up ballads and healing hearts. But when Matt Finch joins the tour as its opening act, his boy-next-door charm proves difficult for Reagan to resist, despite her vow to live a drama-free existence. This summer, Reagan and Lilah will navigate the ups and downs of fame and friendship as they come to see that giving your heart to the right person is always a risk worth taking. A fresh new voice in contemporary romance, Emery Lord’s gorgeous writing hits all the right notes.

The Insider's Scoop

Ten secrets about OPEN ROAD SUMMER:

1. My natural narrative voice is so different than my main character's. She's quippy, using shorter sentences, and I tend to limn on and on with lots of imagery. In order to get her voice down at first, I'd intentionally write when I was undercaffeinated and grumpy.

2. I don't generally "cast" my books in my head, but my character Matt Finch is named after Matt Lauria. Because c'mon.

3. The two girls in my book are completely fictional, but that bond is very much inspired by my own BFF. We've been friends since we were nine. Like the girls in my book, we seem like we don't have much in common on the surface, but we *get* each other and can be completely real--and that's what matters.

4. I spent a full week torturing over whether or not two characters should sleep together. Like, barely wrote anything while I obsessed over this. It was hard to figure out which was the more realistic thing: that they would or wouldn't. Eventually, I figured out the right thing, but it still makes me laugh that one of the problems in my professional life is: should the people I made up do it?

5. I named a character after a friend's horrible stepmother. Then the character wound up being not so horrible at all...and I feel bad about it! Haha.

6. The book has been titled OPEN ROAD SUMMER since before I wrote the first chapter.

7. The cover has always been the same too. The designer nailed it on the first try!

8. I didn't write ORS chronologically. I wrote the last two chapters very early on.

9. The last chapter is probably the one that has changed the least.

10. The chapter that changed the most? The first. I rewrote it four times before even sending it to my agent!
